William Joel has an article on The Verge titled, "Dear Roku, you ruined my TV," discussing a recent update that seemingly added motion smoothing with no way to turn it off. Motion smoothing is disliked by many, especially for non-sports video, as it adds pixels to make motions smoother, which is good for fast action like sports but makes movies look cheap. Roku introduced Roku Smart Picture to automatically improve picture quality dynamically as users stream. However, for many Roku users, it has meant motion smoothing is now always on with no way to turn it off. Roku has not acknowledged the issue, and Joel has not received a substantive response from Roku support. This issue also occurred with some TCL TVs running the Roku OS in 2020. Fire TV users in the US should now start seeing ads before their screensaver starts. These full-screen ads have first been spotted by Cord Cutter News, and they may appear on all Fire TV devices made in 2016 or newer. "If you leave your Fire TV for too long, a full-screen ad will play for about 30 seconds to a minute before your screensaver starts," Link: https://www.thurrott.com/amazon/305088/fire-tv-users-full-screen-ads-before-screensavers-starts

Kevin Bacon hired a makeup artist to disguise him in public with fake teeth and more, but he hated it: "This sucks. I want to go back to being famous." Bacon said, "People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, 'I love you.' I had to wait in line to, I don't know, buy a fucking coffee or whatever. I was like, 'This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.'" Link: https://variety.com/2024/film/news/kevin-bacon-wore-disguide-hide-in-public-1236060904/

The Motion Picture Association-Canada (MPA-Canada), which represents the likes of Netflix, Paramount, and Disney, has claimed in a court filing that the requirement to pay for local news "is a discriminatory measure that goes far beyond what Parliament intended."
